As we peruse the list of fellow winners, we’re astonished by the diversity and inspiration we find among them. So many amazing ideas and concepts are being put into place, and great things are being accomplished. This gives us pause to reflect on our own company and the components that came together to give us this steady growth. Here’s what we see:
Let’s be honest. Anyone can provide payroll services. But not everyone can be Coastal. We’ve developed a truly unique culture where our employees are appreciated and supported. They love coming to work and helping our clients. And we love helping them reach their professional and personal goals.

We’ve known from the beginning that the key to human resources and payroll support is human. We wanted to be the personal, local alternative to out-of-touch national providers. And we’ve never wavered from that vision. As we grow, we remember what made us different in those early days — and it’s what sets us apart today. We’re real people helping real clients. That matters.
When our clients ask for something, we look for a way to provide. It may seem more profitable to put our heads down and charge forward selling a standard set of solutions. But that’s not the human alternative and that’s not part of the Coastal culture. We innovate to ensure our clients have the support they need to do their job best. Most recently, this includes the HR Elite comprehensive service we created last year.
At the end of the day, we built Coastal on a set of values. We follow those values every day, and instill them in everything we do. They’re the reason we’ve been able to grow consistently and steadily over time and have made the Inc. 5000 list six times in a row.
