AB 1732 – Equal Restroom Access Act

Effective March 1, 2017, businesses in California are expected to comply with the new California AB 1732 – Equal Restroom Access Act.  Under the new law, businesses with single-use toilet facilities can no longer label them as “male” or “female”and are identified and may be used as all-gender facilities.  The Act defines a single-use toilet facility as a “toilet facility with no more than one water closet and one urinal with a locking mechanism controlled by the user.”

These restrooms must be signed in compliance with Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations.  Examples of required signage are as follows:
